The North Carolina Vegetation Management Association (NCVMA)
was organized to unite those people interested in the management of
vegetation in the state of North Carolina. Our desire is to be the
source of vegetation management education for public and private
interests, by providing the latest information on research, education,
regulation, contracting, manufacturing, and merchandising of management
techniques.
We hope that you will use this web site as
your "Number One" source for the latest information, activities and

2009 NCVMA FIELD DAY
On May 21, 2009 NCVMA held its second annual field day.
The west side of Biltmore
Estate and the NC Arboretum in Asheville were the selected venues
for both field plots and more formal presentations following lunch.
Over 100 attendees participated in hands-on
demonstrations and open discussions including the latest stump, basal,
and bare ground treatments. Several mechanical tree management
techniques were demonstrated including proper tree trimming procedures.
Thanks to Travis Rogers and Sammy Keziah, the 2009 Field
Day Co-Chairmen, field plots demonstrating the effectiveness of various
herbicides were installed months before the event. These plots allowed
the participants to see first-hand the value of proper product selection
and the complications associated with managing various invasive plant
species. We were also introduced to a new treatment to help control
phragmites.
In the afternoon sessions we were taught how to recognize Cogongrass -
an invading species that has not yet been found in NC. Also, an update
on
State legislation demonstrated the value of NCVMA in helping to
spread the word about pending legislation that directly effects our
businesses.
At the end of the day, continuing education/recertification credits from
ISA, SAF, NCDA&CS and SCDA were offered to attendees.
NCVMA recognizes and appreciates the industry for supporting its
educational and outreach
programs.
